The World Bank has agreed to provide Vietnam a 180 million USD credit to
implement the Irrigated
Agriculture Improvement Project (IAIP) in the
northern mountainous and central regions.
The project has a
total investment of 210 million USD, to which Vietnam contributed a
corresponding capital of 30 million USD, according to a financing
agreement signed with the financial institution on April 4.
The Vietnam Joint-Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade
(Vietinbank) has been appointed to take charge of the credit serving the
project.
IAIP will be implemented in the three northern
mountainous provinces of Ha Giang, Phu Tho and Hoa Binh and central
Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri and Quang Nam provinces from now to 2020.
It aims to enhance irrigated
agricultural productivity and
competitiveness, improve the sustainability of
agricultural production
in adaptation to climate change in the benefiting localities.-VNA
